The ICU-Ghana National Officers taking their oath of office
Delegates at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates conference of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU-Ghana) have extended the mandate of its General Secretary, Morgan Ayawine’s national leadership team for a second term of four years.
The other national officers who were given the mandate for serve again for the next four years together with Mr. Ayawine, are National Chairman, Alhaji Nureeden Al-Hassan, National Vice Chairman, Brother Paul Kofi Charway, Deputy General Secretary (Operations), Brother Emmanuel Baah Benimah, Deputy General Secretary (Administration), Brother Samuel Ananga, National First Trustee, Brother Charles Kojo Yeboah and National Second Trustee, Sister Jemima Fafa Seneya- Bentum.
Mr. Ayawine, in his acceptance speech on behalf of the leadership, expressed gratitude to God and delegates for a successful event in fulfillment of the Union’s Constitution.
“My sincere thanks and gratitude also go to all of you here present, for your selfless sacrifice and contributions to the success we have chalked. Indeed, the retention of all the National Leadership members of the quadrennial just gone by, connotes approval for continuity of the good job done and, as we all know, continuity ensures efficiency and progress which the re-elected National Leadership is committed to bringing to all the structures of the Union,” he said.
The ICU-Ghana General Secretary called for the Union’s unalloyed support and cooperation in all aspects of its operation stating, “…with the dedication and commitment of Management, Staff and the entire membership of the Union, we believe we can successfully deliver on the mandate and confidence reposed in us once again.”
He assured the delegates of the leadership’s commitment and re-dedication to the noble cause of the Union, to wit, the protection of the rights of workers …. who sacrificed their positions and comfort in the formation of a formidable workers’ organisation through the merger of five Unions which today is known as ICU-Ghana.
“I say without fear of contradiction that, the generality of workers of Ghana today, look up to ICU-Ghana for the protection of their economic interest and so, with all hands-on deck, we shall certainly move this great Union of ours to the highest pedestal, and make it the ‘people’s union’ ,” he stated.
“Be rest assured that as National Leadership, we will continue to fight for the rights of workers, and the right to form or join a trade union for the protection of your economic interest which is the core of our mandate,” he further added.
