Mr Eazi
Afrobeats star, Mr Eazi, has revealed that his first ambition was not to sing but to build an empire like Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
In an interview shared on Instagram on August 26, 2025, the singer explained that his entrepreneurial drive started as a teenager.
“I didn’t want to be an artiste, I wanted to be an entrepreneur since I was 15. I just wanted to be Aliko Dangote, who is the richest black person in the world,” he said.
Mr. Eazi, whose music has taken him to global stages, said his entry into the industry was by chance. While studying engineering, he began hosting school parties, which evolved into concerts and festivals. The energy of those events eventually pulled him into the studio.
His big break came in 2015 when American icon Lauryn Hill invited him to perform at New York’s Kings Theatre. “I hadn’t even decided to be an artist at that time. That was my first time playing in the USA. I had no manager at that time. I was just with a guitar… It was surreal when she came to tell me she liked it,” he recalled.
Though he never set out to be a musician, Mr Eazi has since become one of Afrobeats’ most recognisable voices while continuing to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.
