‘Sankofa’, ’Too Late’ Surpass 1.5m Spotify Streams

TWO OF Ghana’s sensational music stars, Gyakie and Wendy Shay, are dominating international streaming platforms, including Spotify, with their tunes, amassing 1.5 million streams each.

Gyakie’s ‘Sankofa’, a heartfelt love song that explores the emotional layers of rekindled romance, since its release, has topped both local and international music charts and is enjoying favourable airplay.

Aside from surpassing 1.5 million views on Spotify, ‘Sankofa’ has been making waves globally, particularly after its debut on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Top 50 chart, marking her first appearance on this prestigious list.

The song, lifted from her upcoming debut album ‘After Midnight’, ranked among the Top 5 trending videos on YouTube in Ghana, demonstrating its widespread appeal.

‘Sankofa’ has amassed millions of streams across digital platforms, underscoring Gyakie’s unique ability to bridge cultures through music, establishing her as one of Africa’s most dynamic female voices.

On the other hand, Wendy Shay’s song ‘Too Late’ is a huge hit, topping charts and breaking records. ‘Too Late’ has garnered an impressive 18.7 billion views on TikTok, with over 21 million creations using the song.

Wendy Shay’s music has been featured in over 30.8 million TikTok videos, amassing more than 24.7 billion views across the platform.

The song’s popularity led to a pan-African remix, ‘Too Late 2.0’, featuring Guchi, Phyna, and Bedjine, celebrating African womanhood, resilience, and unity.

Originally released in 2024, ‘Too Late’ topped streaming charts across Ghana and West Africa, with close to 20 million streams globally.
