Some Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the Western Region have received training in financial literacy, digital innovation, and business management during a capacity-building workshop held in Takoradi.
The event, organised by MTN Ghana in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Ghana Association (SMEGA) and Sanlam Allianz, formed part of MTN’s “SME Accelerate” programme.
The two-day programme, dubbed “SME Business Clinic,” was aimed at empowering SMEs with essential business skills. It brought together about 150 participants, including startups.
Key training areas included business planning, digital marketing, financial management, product development, and access to funding opportunities.
Mohammed Abubakari-Sidick, Senior Manager for SME Sales at MTN Ghana, said the initiative was part of a nationwide campaign to support Ghana’s SME sector.
“We have been to Kumasi, Tamale, and now we are in Takoradi,” he said. He explained that the training addressed common challenges SMEs face, such as bookkeeping and cash-flow management.
He added that the programme also encouraged SMEs to embrace digital tools to grow their businesses.
Maame Ama Simpson, Manager for Enterprise Segment and Product Development at MTN, said participants were introduced to MTN’s Y’ello Biz, Adwumapa, and Webwiz platforms and shown how these could benefit their businesses.
One of the participants, Emmanuel Anaman, a sachet water producer, described the training as impactful.
“This training has exposed me to the power of digital tools in reaching more customers and enhancing my business visibility. We were also trained on how to treat our customers well,” he said.
