Performing On Stage Now Feels Like A Courtroom – Gyakie

Singer Gyakie has likened performing on stage to standing trial in a courtroom, blaming online trolls for taking the joy out of live shows.

In an interview with The Guardian published on 26 August 2025, the ‘Songbird’ admitted she still loves making music and entertaining fans but said the fear of being ridiculed online has changed the atmosphere of performances.

“I mostly enjoy making music in the studio, but I also enjoy stage performances. My only problem with the stage is that with how everyone comes online to troll artists, it’s made the stage feel like a courtroom. One has to be extra mindful of their conduct, because some troll is probably making a creepy video of you to use against you online,” she said.

Despite the pressure, Gyakie recalled a heartwarming moment from her December 2024 concert in Sierra Leone, where fans sang along to her entire set.

“I didn’t expect that they would sing most of my catalogue word for word. Every single day was full of genuine love,” she said.
