Prof. Manu (2nd R) and some beneficiaries of MTN Bright Scholarship
Board Chairman of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Prof. Franklyn Manu, has lamented the lack of recognition from the government for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in the country.
Speaking at a Bright Conversation at the MTN House in Accra, Prof. Manu said during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when businesses and government institutions were hardly hit, MTN Ghana, through its charitable wing, the MTN Foundation, “donated a whopping sum of GH¢1 million to the government of the day to support the fight against the virus.”
This donation, according to the Board Chair, received minimal recognition by the government, saying, “I think we were the only Ghanaian company that donated such a huge sum in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic but yet no proper commendation from the state.”
Prof. Manu stated that upon assuming the position as Board Chair for the foundation, he has ensured that the underserved communities, with the help of its members, are catered for in terms of providing developmental projects.
“The Foundation over the years has served communities across the country. While everyday challenges present in what it serves, we are committed to doing all we can as a foundation in championing a good cause as we always do,” he added.
The MTN Ghana Foundation has made significant investments in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
It has committed GH¢106 million to 166 corporate social responsibility projects in 2024, as part of efforts to enhance education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community support across the country. The breakdown of the investment includes 90 projects in education, 55 in healthcare, 15 in economic empowerment, and 6 focused on community support initiatives.
