CHRISTIAN SAKA Ahianyevi, aged 35, a private security officer and Newton Allotey, aged 26, a dispatch rider have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for their alleged involvement in the Sowutuom-Omanjor Homowo violence on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The arrest, made by the Accra Regional Police Command, retrieved 18 spent BB cartridges from Newton Allotey while Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits.

According to sources, one of the suspects, Allotey, was apprehended by the Special Support Unit around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025. Four teams from the Unit stormed Allotey’s hideout at Dansoman Last Stop and took him into custody based on tip-off information.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Accra Region, Supt. Ms. Juliana Obeng said the suspects are in police custody, assisting with investigations, as police continue to maintain a strong security presence in the affected communities.

“The Regional Police Command urges all factions and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects should contact police emergency numbers 18555 or 191,” the statement read.

This positive development comes on the heels of the Ghana Police Service’s announcement that it was investigating violent incidents.

Police investigation revealed that a misunderstanding broke out between followers of two rival chiefs during the sprinkling of traditional food (Kpokpoi), leading to an exchange of gunfire. The situation escalated when some attendees attempted to leave the festival grounds, resulting in further attacks at Olebu.

Three persons, Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah alias Nii Kwashiebu, Theophilus Nii Amu Kwadjan, and Joseph Shaibu Dodoo, lost their lives in the violence.

Additionally, four individuals, Enoch Amevor (treated and discharged), Samuel Adjei, Nathaniel Doku, and Frederick Lartey alias Nii Obrafour, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at various medical facilities, including Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Ridge Hospital.

The police further indicated that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while intelligence-led operations are underway to identify and arrest all suspects involved in the violence.
