Kofi Akpaloo
Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, is still in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after failing to meet GH¢10 million bail bond and two sureties imposed, following his arrest six days ago.
The bail has been reduced to GH¢3.5m through the intervention of George Boateng, former National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant, but Akpaloo could not meet the new condition.
Mr. Akpaloo was arrested at his residence in Kumasi, and it was not immediately known why he was arrested. Information later surfaced that his arrest was in connection with allegations of fraud and money laundering.
Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, confirmed the investigation and bail conditions in a Facebook post.
“Suspect PERCIVAL KOFI AKPALOO is under investigation on allegations of various financial crimes including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering. EOCO officials arrested him on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. He has, however, been granted police bail with the following conditions – GH¢10 million bond with 2 sureties to be justified. The suspect remains in the custody of EOCO pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions,” the post read.
Mr. Boateng, speaking with DAILY GUIDE, appealed to President Mahama to consider Akpaloo’s deteriorating health condition and direct his release from custody.
