Nuno Espirito Santo
Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, just three games into the new Premier League season, bringing an end to his 21-month spell at the City Ground
The Portuguese manager’s future had been in doubt for weeks after he admitted to a deteriorating relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis. That tension reached breaking point despite his recent achievements with the club.
In a statement released shortly after midnight, Forest thanked Nuno for his “significant contributions” during what they described as a successful chapter in the club’s modern history.
Nuno took charge in December 2023 following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, and quickly steadied the team to secure their Premier League survival. He went on to mastermind an impressive 2023–24 campaign, guiding Forest to seventh place — their best finish since 1994–95 — and securing European football for the first time in 30 years. His success was rewarded with a new three-year contract in June.
Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as head coach of Nottingham Forest to replace the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno left his position at the City Ground late on Monday night after 21 months in charge – and only three games into the season.
Postecoglou returns to management three months after he was sacked by Tottenham following a dismal Premier League season when they finished 17th.
However, the 60-year-old Australian led Spurs to a historic Europa League victory at the end of the season to end the club’s long-running trophy drought.
He will be presented to the media as Forest boss at a news conference at 13:30 BST on Thursday.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said: “We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies.
“His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”
Forest currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after their opening three games of the season.
