The Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II Education Fund has awarded scholarships to top ten students from Berekuso and surrounding communities in the Akuapem South District of the Eastern Region.
The students were selected from Berekuso MA JHS, Fidelity Juvenile College, Nsakye MA JHS, Peduase Methodist School, Theocracy School Complex and Adenkrebi Basic School.
The beneficiaries, who were among about 500 students from the district who sat for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), received among other things note books, exercise books, mathematical sets, trunks, buckets and GH¢1,500 stipend.
In a presentation during a short ceremony at Berekuso last Friday, Addo Otu Afari, who doubles as the Chief of Ankyiase and Berekuso Akwamu, on behalf of the chief of Berekuso, Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II, said the traditional authority will continue to provide the needed assistance to support students who excelled in this year’s BECE.
He, however, urged the parents to monitor the performance of their wards at the end of every academic year, in order to assess their performance and give them the necessary assistance where necessary.
He also called on stakeholders, especially non- profit organisations, not only to donate to support the Fund but also help sustain it in order to increase the number of beneficiaries.
Students pursuing Senior High School (SHS) education in the 2025/2026 academic year are part of the beneficiaries of the over 120 scholarships that the Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II Education Fund has awarded to brilliant students so far.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, Dr. Rebecca Awuah, said the scholarship scheme was introduced 10 years ago by Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II to provide assistance to brilliant but needy students, to enable them continue their SHS education.
She explained that although all students who enroll in Senior High Schools are beneficiaries of Free SHS, there was still the need for students to be offered extra support to enable them to start SHS education on a good footing.
Dr. Awuah also indicated that apart from the scholarship awarded to students at the SHS level, teachers, especially at KG and lower primary, are provided with training to help improve learning outcomes of students in the area.
Emmanuel Madjie Nartey Bless, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the chief and management of the Fund for their continuous support, and pledged to study hard to also contribute to society, especially Akuapim South District.
