Acting Rector and Dean of Academics, BlueCrest College, Prof. Thomas Buabeng Assan, has called on matriculants to cultivate the habit of entrepreneurship while on campus, to prepare them for the job market.
Speaking at the 30th matriculation ceremony themed, “Inspiring Pathways: Education, Entrepreneurship and Employability,” Prof. Thomas emphasised that cultivating entrepreneurship helps students develop a mindset that identifies opportunities, takes calculated risks, and innovates to create value.
“I urge you to cultivate the spirit of entrepreneurship. This encompasses creativity, resilience, and the willingness to take risks throughout your time here. Take advantage of the resources available to enrich your knowledge. Remember the true value of certification lies not just in what you learn, but how, what, why, and when you apply the knowledge,” he said.
Prof. Buabeng entreated the students to participate in various mentorship programmes, workshops, networking events, and Students’ Representative Council (SRC) activities, as well as cooperate with peers to prepare them for the workforce.
“Keep in mind that education and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. Employers are looking for more than just academic qualifications. They see individuals who are adaptable, innovative, and have soft skills as valuable,” he added.
The Vice Rector, Eric Hanson, disclosed that the university seeks to introduce five cutting-edge programmes aimed at producing students with employable skills for the job market.
He said that next year, the school will introduce five programmes: Master’s in Auditing, Accounting, and Forensic Cyber Security, Master’s in Information Technology and Business Management, combining IT and Business, a course in Data Science and Analytics, a programme focused on AI and Technology, addressing the need for tech understanding in education and Master’s in Educational Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
“We have a 10-year plan to expand our programme offerings to 45 by 2030. Next year, we’ll launch five new programmes, and then continue to grow our curriculum in subsequent years. We’ve reviewed the courses to ensure they align with this expansion plan,” he said.
Three hundred (300) students undertook the matriculation ceremony, offering various courses like Advanced Certification in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Certificate in Event Management and Décor, Professional Certificate in Garment Construction, Diploma in Information and Digital Technology, Diploma in Business, Diploma in Fashion, Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion, Technology, Arts, Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Business, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
