D’banj
Nigerian music star, D’banj, has revisited the 2012 breakup of Mo’Hits Records, revealing that the decision to part ways was initiated entirely by his former partner, ace producer Don Jazzy.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj disclosed that contrary to longstanding speculation, he was not the driving force behind the split.
“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent. And that’s why we have no issue,” he said.
D’banj further revealed that Don Jazzy handed him full ownership of his catalogue at the time of their separation, along with “maybe 10 other songs I have not released.”
Reflecting on their journey, he noted that despite differences in opinion, both men were focused on expanding their global reach. Their final joint effort, the hit single ‘Oliver Twist’, went on to achieve international success.
The singer, however, insisted he has no regrets about the split, describing it as something that was destined to happen. He added that while he is content with the path their careers have taken, he still misses making music with Don Jazzy.
