Ramatu Baba, the first female District Commissioner (DC) under the Kwame Nkrumah regime, has passed on aged close to 90 and has since been buried at Kasoa Ofaakor near Accra where she lived.

A politician in the First Republic, she was the only woman to have been District Commissioner for the Yendi District, and was the Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency from 1965 to 1966 when the Nkrumah government was toppled in a coup.

She was educated in schools in her home district and Achimota School in Accra.  She was appointed District Commissioner for the Yendi District at the age of twenty-seven.

She passed on in Accra but the main Islamic prayers for her soul was held in Yendi after the third day post-death aduwa at Kasoa Ofaakor where she lived. She was blessed with two sons.
