The late Daddy Lumba
The Manhyia Palace has reportedly clarified that it is not involved in the disputes surrounding the death and funeral arrangements of the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
In a statement shared by Opemsuo Radio yesterday, the Palace urged the public to disregard reports attempting to link it to disagreements within the late musician’s family, particularly matters involving Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, Ernestina Fosua, and the spouses of the late icon.
The Palace further stressed that it has no role in the planning of Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites.
“Manhyia urges the general public to disregard any reports attempting to associate the Palace with matters concerning the preparations for the burial and funeral rites of Mr Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba,” the disclaimer read.
Currently, the Fosu family are divided over when the legendary musician should be buried.
One group, led by family head Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, plans to bury the late musician tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, 2025, while another faction, headed by Lumba’s senior sister, Ernestina Fosu, insists the burial should take place on March 14, 2026.
This disagreement has triggered a series of controversies that have gained widespread attention online, with disputes reported over the burial date, autopsy findings, widowhood rites, and other funeral arrangements.
Alongside ongoing court proceedings, members of the Fosu family also sought intervention from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, after Ernestina Fosu invoked the Ntam Kese, a traditional mechanism for resolving serious family disputes.
The Manhyia Palace has urged the public to respect its position and avoid attributing involvement to it as discussions regarding the late Daddy Lumba’s final rites continue.
