The national leadership, management, and staff of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, (ICU–Ghana) has wished it members a memorable Christmas.
In a message addressed to ICU members and workers in general, the Union expressed appreciation for their tireless labour in lifting the country from economic doldrums.
“Your sacrifices and contributions to the growth and development of the economy are deeply appreciated, and you are encouraged to sustain this commitment in the ensuing year and beyond,” the letter signed by Morgan Ayawine, General Secretary, ICU–Ghana indicated.
He said although the year begun with great expectations not all of these expectations may have been fully realised, adding that the modest gains made so far should serve as a springboard and catalyst to propel members into 2026 for greater achievements in productivity and improved remuneration.
“Do not despair; rather, give hope a chance and continue to work harder in the ensuing year (2026) to consolidate the modest economic achievements by government and ensure their sustainability for the good of all,” he said.
He said while there have been some positive economic indicators during the year—such as a relatively stable exchange rate, single‑digit inflation, and reduced interest rates—these gains are yet to translate meaningfully into improved living conditions for the ordinary worker and the generality of Ghanaians.
“On this auspicious occasion, ICU–Ghana commends government for fully recapitalising the National Investment Bank Limited during the year under review, which will undoubtedly empower the Bank to deliver effectively on its mandate towards national economic growth.
Similarly, we take this opportunity to urge the government to address the financial challenges confronting COCOBOD, which remain a major concern to Ghanaians. Equally important is the need for the government to bail out selected State‑Owned Enterprises (SOEs). These measures will help create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth and enable these entities to contribute meaningfully to the socio‑economic development of the country,” he indicated.
The union urged employers to adhere to Collective Agreements and the Labour Laws, which regulate relationship and ensure industrial harmony and admonish anti‑union employers to desist from such practices, as they carry serious consequences.
