Wendy Shay and Tracy Shay
Singer, Wendy Shay, has finally spoken out amid growing controversy surrounding her young protégé, Tracy Shay’s viral performance clip that triggered online outrage.
The storm began after Tracy Shay mounted the stage at Sista Afia’s 10th anniversary celebration, where she urged the audience to stand during her performance.
The footage spread rapidly, drawing sharp criticism toward both the budding artiste and her mentor.
Some critics argued a minor shouldn’t be sharing such a stage.
In a video shared on X on January 7, 2026, Wendy Shay distanced herself from the Koforidua performance, stating she had no prior knowledge of the event.
According to her, Tracy would never have gone on stage unprepared if she had been informed.
“Anything she does affects me and my brand. I always prepare her before she performs. I didn’t know about that show, so I couldn’t guide her,” Wendy Shay explained, adding that Tracy does not move independently for performances and lives with her parents.
Despite calls from sections of the public urging her to withdraw support, Wendy Shay stood firm on her commitment to the young singer. She reiterated that Tracy is under the care of her family, with her aunt serving as manager and her uncle as road manager, and only joins her during school breaks or vacations.
The ‘Survivor’ hitmaker also reaffirmed her long-standing promise to sponsor Tracy’s education from primary school through university, stressing that she remains fully invested in the child’s future.
Wendy Shay further disclosed that Tracy Shay’s parents have apologised for allowing her to perform without her consent. She appealed to fans and the public to show mercy, describing Tracy as exceptionally talented and in need of proper grooming.
“She needs guidance, not condemnation,” Wendy Shay said. “If her parents align with me, I will make her the star I know she can be.”
The singer concluded with a plea for forgiveness, urging the public to focus on nurturing talent rather than tearing it down.
