The suspects
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a woman alleged to be a prominent figure in the local drug trade following an anti-narcotics operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The operation, which took place on Friday, January 16, 2025 forms part of NACOC’s ongoing nationwide efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The exercise resulted in the seizure of various illicit substances and the arrest of several individuals suspected of being involved in drug peddling.
Among those arrested was a 32-year-old woman identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.”
Opinion leaders in the area described her as a key player in the local drug trade who had reportedly evaded arrest in the past.
NACOC indicated that the suspect had been under surveillance for some time due to intelligence linking her to the trafficking of various illicit drugs.
According to the Commission, it had also received multiple complaints from residents regarding criminal activities associated with some of the suspects currently in custody.
During the raid, officers confiscated quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be connected to drug distribution.
NACOC has reaffirmed its resolve to intensify the fight against drug-related crimes across the country, assuring the public of its commitment to making Ghana a drug-free nation.
