Nigerians Split Over Wizkid– Seun Kuti Clash On Fela Legacy

Wizkid and Seun Kuti

An online clash between Wizkid and Seun Kuti over the legacy of late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti has divided Nigerian celebrities.

The feud started when Seun Kuti criticised Wizkid FC for comparing the singer to his father, calling it disrespectful and arguing that Fela’s legacy was built on activism and sacrifice, not fame or streams. During several Instagram Live sessions, Seun attacked Wizkid’s fans and questioned the singer’s silence.

Wizkid later fired back, declaring himself bigger than Fela and mocking Seun’s achievements, which escalated the dispute into personal insults involving both families.

The clash has since sparked a wider debate. Comedian Edo Pikin said Fela’s greatness was defined by impact, not entertainment. Gospel singer Testimony Jaga criticised Seun and labelled Fela a bad influence. Influencer Esabod called for restraint, while Tosin Silverdam argued that Wizkid’s global success makes him bigger than Fela.

Other celebrities, including Funnybone, Cubana Chief Priest, Portable and Daddy Freeze, have also weighed in, keeping the debate alive.
