A DRIVER’S mate at Kronum near Kumasi has gone into hiding after he allegedly stabbed his colleague in the neck with a broken bottle while they were both fighting over bleaching allegations.
The suspect, who has been identified only as Mallachy, reportedly, used a broken bottle to stab the neck of Gabriel Arhin, causing life-threatening injuries to him at Kronum, at 6:30 p.m. on January 24, 2026.
According to the Suame District Police, Mallachy, without provocation, accused Arhin of bleaching his skin, and this instantly resulted in a fierce fight between the two driver’s mates, who are friends.
People at the scene were said to have managed to separate the two feuding friends, only for Mallachy, who was extremely angry and panting for breath, to stab Arhin in the neck area with a broken bottle.
A police statement said, “Both victim and suspect are friends and drivers’ mates residing at Kronum. On 24/01/2926 at about 6:30 p.m., both met at a beer bar at Kronum Kyerease to have a drink.
“The suspect accused the victim of bleaching his skin, and the victim got offended and they both fought. They were separated by bystanders, and the suspect, who was not satisfied, broke a Coca-Cola bottle and stabbed the victim’s neck.”
According to the police, Kwadwo Oheme Williams, said to be the father of Arhin, reported the case to the police, who afterwards visited the victim at the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.
“Statement obtained from the complainant, Kwadwo Oheme Williams and Police Medical Report Form issued to be given to the doctor for endorsement.
“Police quickly rushed to KATH Accident and Emergency Ward and found the victim, Gabriel Arhin on admission responding to treatment. Statement was subsequently obtained from him,” the report disclosed.
According to the police, Mallachy after stabbing Arhin, went into hiding, stressing that “Efforts are being made to trace the whereabouts of the culprit for his arrest,” to assist in police investigations.
