Samira Bawumia
The deafening ‘no change’ response to Hajia Samira Bawumia when she engaged delegates in the Ayawaso Central Constituency in Accra last Tuesday evening said it all about readiness to vote for her husband come Saturday.
‘No Change’ means Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be retained as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when the party votes on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
She told the fully packed auditorium of the Presbyterian Church at Ayidiki, a suburb of Accra New Town, that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia “is God’s gift to Ghana. He is an illuminant in darkness.”
“The former Vice President’s outstanding performance is by God’s grace. Let us not allow an internal election to push us to engage in untoward utterances which have no basis,” she stated, adding that “it is only God who chooses Kings. Let us be guided by this fact and be civil in our dealings.”
Hajia Samira’s philosophical presentation was so engaging that there was no denying the fact that the former Second Lady is imbued with intelligence and oratory skills.
Individuals driven by destinies have their times, and for now it is Dr. Bawumia, and we must accept this reality, she said about the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
She recalled how Dr. Bawumia was spotted by former President John Agyekum Kufuor and made Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, to indicate how destiny cannot be ruled out in the lives of human beings.
“Here is a man who tirelessly worked for the NPP…from policy novelties to the landmark election petition hearing at the Supreme Court. Those were times when the man returned home tired for the duration of the hearing only to be ready for the next day’s court assignment. It was draining as he had to do extra work at home assembling relevant documents. Yet some are questioning his loyalty to the party. A man who served as Vice President for eight years?” she pointed out.
The convincing logic she laid bare before her audience was intermittently disturbed by the plaudits she received.
Those who seek favours from God must pray for same and avoid running down their colleagues with mendacious rhetoric, she added.
God, she went on, uses persons he so chooses to carry out his projects regardless of their religious or ethnic background, using the story of Cyrus in the Bible to underscore her point. Quoting from the Book of Ezra and Isaiah, she mentioned how Cyrus, King of Persia, allowed Jews to return to Jerusalem and to rebuild the Temple after their Babylonian exile. Given that Cyrus was not an Israelite, his action impacted hugely Jewish history. This is regarded as a fulfilment of a prophecy in Isaiah 44:28 and 45:1. Hajia Samira maneuvered this piece of Biblical history so effortlessly she earned additional respect from her attentive audience. Doing so within the auditorium of a church was auspicious.
Records of presidential elections in the country show that winners did not win in their first attempts as can be evidenced from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP, she said to a convinced audience.
Hajia Samira was able to make a presentation which was devoid of name-calling.
An excited Henry Quartey, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Central Constituency and former Minister for the Interior, including the Greater Accra Region, added his voice to why it must be Dr. Bawumia, who must be voted for on Saturday.
The constituency has sets itself the task of beating all others in the Greater Accra Region in terms of voter numbers for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
