Kojo Blak
Fast-rising artist, Kojo Blak, has said he does not sign any contract without first consulting his lawyer.
His comments come amid an ongoing dispute between rapper Kwesi Arthur and his former record label, Ground Up Chale, which has reignited public discussion around music contracts and artiste management.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Kojo Blak, who is currently signed to two record labels, explained that although he is not a legal expert, he depends on his lawyer to carefully review and explain all agreements before he signs.
The singer noted that his experience in the music industry has given him a fair understanding of how contracts and artist management work. He added that he has also learned important lessons from colleagues who faced challenges due to poor contract decisions earlier in their careers.
“I’ve been here for a while, so I know what goes into managing an artiste and the contracts involved. I’ve seen worst-case scenarios through friends who were bigger than me at the time. Most importantly, my music lawyer checks everything before I sign,” he said.
Kojo Blak further stated that having a lawyer has had a significant impact on his career, helping him avoid mistakes in contracts and agreements.
“If not for the knowledge my lawyer gives me, I could have made mistakes when it comes to clauses and agreements. I may not know best, but because I have a lawyer, I’m sorted on that front,” he added.
