Louisa Laryea, wife of broadcast journalist Israel Laryea, is facing backlash for body-shaming comments she made against GHOne journalist, Lily Mohammed, on Facebook.

The controversy started when Louisa criticised Lily for her coverage of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to American streamer IShowSpeed.

In a cryptic post, Louisa slammed Lily, saying “Journalism goes way beyond make-up, skin bleaching, BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift), hair, and fashion,” implying that Lily should focus on researching and fact-checking instead.

Grace Akosua Amoabeng,  a member of the Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised Louisa for body shaming and downplaying the intelligence of another woman.

On her Facebook page, she wrote, “You may disagree with her editorial stance, but resorting to insults is unacceptable. We must raise the level of conversation about women. Comments about appearance, personal life, or baseless rumours are crude, irrelevant, and immature.”

Meanwhile, Lily has responded, accusing Louisa of being condescending and lacking substance, saying, “That you are married to a journalist definitely does not make you one.”

The online clash has sparked debate, with some calling out Louisa for body-shaming and others defending her right to express her opinion.
