Angela Okorie
Arrested Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, remained in custody at Nigeria’s Suleja Prison over the weekend despite having met the bail conditions granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court on Friday approved bail for the actress for ₦5 million, with one surety in like sum, who must be a Level 13 civil servant. The bail was reportedly secured following the intervention of several activists and public figures, including Omoyele Sowore, Mama Pee, actor Stanley Ontop, and Randy Peter.
However, hours after the court’s decision, Angela Okorie had yet to regain her freedom, sparking widespread debate and concern on social media, with fans and colleagues questioning the delay in her release.
Clarifying the situation, actor Stanley Ontop disclosed via his Instagram story that the bail process was completed late on Friday, making it impossible for prison authorities to affect her release the same day.
“Angela Okorie’s bail application has been processed, but after we had finished the processing, time has gone,” he wrote. “So she will be out from Suleja prison by Monday. We have met all her bail conditions; we await Monday for her release.”
Stanley’s explanation has somewhat eased public tension, as supporters now await Monday’s expected release of the actress from custody.
