NPP Elections Committee Commends Police Service

Joseph Osei Owusu and IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to express appreciation to the Ghana Police Service for its central role in ensuring a peaceful flagbearer election.

The Committee, led by its Chairman, Joseph Osei Owusu, was at the police headquarters to commend the service for their professional showmanship at the just-ended election, which recorded zero incident.

He noted that the visible police presence, effective coordination, and neutral posture of personnel contributed greatly to maintaining calm and public confidence throughout the electoral process.

IGP Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), thanked the Chairman and his delegation for the visit and recognition.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property as well as supporting democratic processes through dedicated, disciplined, and professional policing.

Ahead of the NPP primary, the Ghana Police Service as part of measures to prevent violence at various polling centres issued a stern warning against the use of ‘macho-men’ by politicians.

The Police Service indicated that the election is not a contest of strength or intimidation, but a democratic exercise that requires calm and order.

“They have huge shoulders, so they call themselves macho men. The election is not between macho people; it’s between five contestants. Whether one of them is macho or not, I can’t speak to that, so our duty is simple: we go and make sure that people who are coming to vote are protected, media is protected, police are protected, electoral officers are protected, everybody comes around and goes home freely,” the police stated.
