Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has renewed calls for improved football infrastructure in the Upper West Region following a working visit to the Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, January 3, 2026, at the Regional Coordinating Council in Wa and formed part of the GFA President’s ongoing tour of the region to engage key stakeholders and assess grassroots football development.

Mr. Simeon-Okraku expressed gratitude to the Regional Minister for his support for football and highlighted the growing demand for quality playing pitches across the region.

He noted that inadequate infrastructure has been a consistent concern raised by stakeholders during his engagements.

According to him, young people in the Upper West Region are eager to play and develop their talents but lack suitable facilities.

He urged the Minister to use his office to help push for improved playing surfaces, while assuring him of the GFA’s continued commitment to supporting football development.

The GFA President reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to work closely with government and other partners to use football as a tool for youth empowerment, opportunity creation and social cohesion.

In his response, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing welcomed the visit, describing it as timely and important. He pledged his support for grassroots football by committing to sponsor Colts football in the region, a move aimed at strengthening youth development.

The Minister also expressed willingness to engage on practical proposals to advance the infrastructure agenda and called for sustained collaboration between the GFA and government, stressing football’s unifying role in national development.
