Kofi Ofosu Nkansah
Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been questioned by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), seeking details of his claims regarding the sale of government-sponsored overseas scholarships.
CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, in a post on Facebook, stated that Mr. Nkansah was picked up by the security agency after reportedly refusing earlier invitations to provide evidence supporting his allegations.
“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of sale of foreign scholarships. He is currently in the grips of the NIB after refusing their invitation,” the post read.
No Arrest
Mr. Nkansah’s lawyers have however, clarified that he was not arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau.
According to his legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Mr. Nkansah voluntarily appeared before the NIB to provide information on allegations of the sale of government-funded overseas scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat.
Lawyers for Ofosu Nkansah stressed that his engagement with the NIB was in line with this directive and involved providing the necessary information to aid the investigation, emphasising that he cooperated fully with investigators.
Allegation
Mr. Nkansah’s questioning by the NIB follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to the security agency to launch a full-scale investigation into claims Mr. Nkansah made about the Scholarship Secretariat during a widely circulated radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
In the broadcast, Nkansah alleged that an individual made payments to secure scholarships for studies abroad, raising questions about fairness, transparency, and integrity in the award of government-sponsored educational opportunities.
Following that, a formal communication dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, described the allegations as “serious and of grave public concern,” and tasked the NIB with establishing the facts, identifying any persons involved, and determining the veracity of the claims.
The findings are to be submitted directly to the President for consideration and any appropriate action.
