‎‎ Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has rolled out a revamped version of its SpeedApp, marking a significant step in its digital transformation drive as the bank sharpens its focus on faster, safer and more intuitive mobile banking services.

The relaunch, nearly a decade after the app’s initial introduction, reflects UMB’s sustained investment in digital platforms to meet the growing reliance of customers on mobile and online banking, while reinforcing its brand promise of helping customers bank with confidence, according to management.

Unveiled at the bank’s head office at SSNIT Emporium in Accra, the upgraded SpeedApp features improved system performance, enhanced stability and a simplified user interface designed to make everyday banking more seamless.

Customers can now access core services such as account management, funds transfers, bill payments and balance enquiries with greater speed and ease.

Beyond performance improvements, the new SpeedApp places a strong emphasis on security. It incorporates reinforced authentication protocols and strengthened transaction safeguards, offering customers additional protection at a time when digital banking is becoming central to daily financial activity.

Speaking at the launch, Head of E-Business at UMB, Tubuor Ofei-Agyeman, said the revamp was informed by evolving customer expectations and advances in technology.

“This is not simply a cosmetic upgrade. The revamped SpeedApp represents a deliberate effort to deliver a faster, more reliable and more secure digital banking experience. That is one that customers can trust every day,” he said.

Head of Corporate Communications, Edem Knight-Tay, said the relaunch aligns UMB’s digital channels with its broader transformation and brand agenda.

“Digital banking now plays a central role in how customers interact with their banks. This revamp ensures the SpeedApp reflects UMB’s current brand direction and our commitment to dependable, customer-focused innovation,” he noted.

He encouraged UMB customers to download or update the SpeedApp to benefit from faster transactions, improved reliability and enhanced security, supported by the stability of a bank with more than 50 years of operating experience.

According to him, the SpeedApp revamp forms part of a wider digital-first strategy at UMB.

The bank also unveiled a fully redesigned corporate website aimed at delivering a more seamless, intuitive and engaging customer experience.

The new website strengthens UMB’s digital brand presence and competitive positioning by offering easier access to products, services and essential information through a modern, user-friendly interface.

It also serves as a key touchpoint for digital customer acquisition, engagement and service delivery, supporting the bank’s broader growth ambitions.
