Man Grabbed At KIA Over Cocaine In Gari

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a male suspect and the interception of a large shipment of cocaine concealed in the packaging of a popular Ghanaian food ‘gari’ at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Deputy Director-General of NACOC, Twum Barimah, revealed in an interview on Atinka FM that the suspect, a manager at the food packaging company, had been using the company’s products to smuggle cocaine abroad.

“We have arrested the suspect and seized the products. We are investigating and have already invited the management of the company for questioning,” Twum Barimah said, declining to reveal the company’s name to avoid causing undue harm to their business.

According to Twum Barimah, the suspect had used two different products manufactured by the company to conceal the cocaine, and had been involved in similar activities in the past.

“The first time we seized the products, we were unable to locate the suspects, but this time around, we have them in custody,” he said.

The news has sparked widespread speculation, with many pointing fingers at spice and gari manufacturing companies in the country.

A source at NACOC said the company’s management has claimed innocence, stating that they were unaware of the illicit activities when they were invited for questioning, and have been granted bail. However, two individuals remain in custody.

He further noted that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all culprits involved in the smuggling.
