President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has praised the Northern Region for its outstanding role in advancing women’s football, while urging continued unity and backing for the sport ahead of a packed international schedule.

He delivered the message during a courtesy visit to the Gulkpe Naa Palace in Tamale as part of his official tour of the Northern Region.

The stop formed part of the FA’s wider outreach programme aimed at strengthening ties with traditional leaders and regional football stakeholders.

Simeon-Okraku expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation, and singled out the Northern Region as a major force in the development of the women’s game.

According to him, many female players from the area are currently representing Ghana at different international levels, reflecting the strength of local talent pathways.

He commended both the Northern Regional Football Association and traditional authorities for their steady commitment to supporting women’s football, noting that their collaboration has helped create opportunities for young girls and strengthened grassroots structures.

“The Northern Region remains a strong pillar in the development of women’s football in Ghana,” he said, stressing the need for sustained grassroots investment and community involvement.

The GFA boss also appealed for prayers and moral support from traditional leaders as Ghana football prepares for several key international assignments. He highlighted the Black Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualification efforts among the major priorities on the calendar.

Members of his delegation included Northern RFA Chairman Alhaji Abu-Hassan Rhyzo, GFA Chief of Staff Michael Osekre, Regional Football Coordinator Daseebre Adu Asare, Dreams FC President Jiji Alifoe Mohammed, and Senior Communications Manager at the Office of the President, Patrick Akoto.
