Mensah-Bonsu and other members of his campaign team
THE OPPOSITION New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to start a major reconciliation process among its party members to help boost party unity and properly position the NPP for victory in the 2028 general election.
“The laudable move is the brainchild of the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential polls, former Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia,” a top member of the party, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has announced.
He admitted that there are misunderstandings and few squabbles between some party members, especially in some of the constituencies, and the party has decided to quickly resolve them to help foster unity.
“Dr. Bawumia has decided to, as quickly as possible, embark on a major reconciliation project to help resolve all the petty differences in the party, especially in some of the constituencies across the country.
“I’m passionately appealing to the party members to cooperate with us when we start the reconciliation process so we can get a united and strong party behind Dr. Bawumia to enable him win the next polls,” he said.
Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who is a former Majority Leader in Parliament, admitted that without a united and strong party behind Dr. Bawumia, the NPP cannot win the next election.
“We need to unite solidly behind Dr. Bawumia. He must have absolute command over the party, ahead of the 2028 elections to make our determination to win the polls a reality”, he declared.
Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, also said the NPP cannot win the 2028 elections on their own strength, saying that the party needs the support of floating voters.
In this regard, he admonished the NPP members about the need for them to unite and work as a family in order to make the party attractive and appealing to the floating voters so victory 2028 will be possible.
“Reconciliation and party unity should be our major goal and priority now after our party elections. Even if we unite as a party, our own strength cannot secure victory for us, we need floating voters to win election 2028.
“If we are targeting floating voters and our house is divided, then it wouldn’t speak well of us. Definitely, if the floating voters realise that we are fighting at the constituency and polling station levels, they wouldn’t join us.”
“Infighting will not make the party attractive to floating voters so we must do away with it and rather embrace unity”, he said when various NPP groups stormed Dr. Bawumia’s house to congratulate him on his victory in the recent NPP presidential elections.
