Singer, Wendy Shay, has weighed in on the trending controversy involving a Russian man and some Ghanaian women, urging the public to respond with empathy rather than condemnation.

Speaking during a stage performance on February 16, 2026, the songstress paused her set to address the viral video that had sparked heated debate on social media.

“I believe we’ve all seen some videos trending on social media that involved a Russian and some Ghanaian girls. I’m not condoning what the women did, but I want to draw your attention to something,” she told the audience.

According to Wendy Shay, the incident reflects deep-seated perceptions shaped by upbringing and societal conditioning. She argued that many Africans were raised to view white people or foreigners as superior.

“What happened was a result of what our grandparents and our parents kept in our minds. They made us feel like ‘white’ people or foreigners are more human than we the blacks. What happened to the women could actually happen to anyone at all,” she stated.

The singer appealed to Ghanaians to reduce the harsh criticism directed at the women, stressing that they deserve understanding and support.

“I’m pleading that you should minimise criticising them because they’re also humans. I feel this is the time that we can all come together and arrest the man. I think his mission was to make people have the perception that African women are cheap, but we are not cheap,” she said.

Wendy Shay further encouraged the public to help the women heal emotionally rather than shame them.
