Atwima Yabi, in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, is on the brink of becoming a vibrant tourism and leisure hub as the Fofie Resort nears full completion.

The new resort centre, situated on a scenic dam in the community, was commissioned on Sunday, February 22, 2026, by Kontomire Kwame Frimpong Ababio, Chief of Yabi. Although the facility is yet to be officially opened to the public, the commissioning ceremony drew hundreds of residents and visitors from neighbouring communities who gathered to witness the significant milestone.

The colourful event was marked by traditional drumming and dancing, cultural performances and a guided inspection of the almost-completed facility. The large turnout reflected the high level of anticipation and excitement surrounding the project.

Addressing the gathering, Kontomire Kwame Frimpong Ababio explained that the establishment of the Fofie Resort is aimed at creating employment opportunities for the indigenes of Yabi and surrounding communities. He noted that the initiative forms part of efforts to stimulate local economic growth and position the area as a destination of choice within the district.

According to him, the resort is expected to generate both direct and indirect jobs in hospitality, catering, security, facility management and event hosting when it becomes fully operational. He added that local farmers, fishermen, traders and artisans are also likely to benefit from increased demand for goods and services.

One of the major attractions of the resort is the range of modern leisure equipment and water-based recreational facilities installed at the dam. These include BBQ boats, yachts and other interesting machines designed to offer visitors a unique and memorable experience on the water. The chief noted that such facilities are rare within the district and are expected to draw tourists from far and near.

He emphasised that the natural beauty of the dam provides a serene environment for relaxation, family outings and social events. With the addition of the boats and other leisure machines, the Fofie Resort is poised to offer a blend of adventure and comfort in a calm setting.

Residents who attended the ceremony described the near-completion of the project as transformative for the community. They expressed optimism that the resort would help reduce unemployment, curb rural-urban migration and boost small-scale enterprises such as food vending, transportation and the sale of local crafts.

Kontomire Kwame Frimpong Ababio appealed to residents to support and safeguard the facility to ensure its sustainability. He also expressed confidence that once officially opened, the resort would attract visitors from across the Ashanti Region and beyond, contributing significantly to revenue generation within the Atwima Kwanwoma District.

With finishing touches currently underway, anticipation continues to build as Atwima Yabi prepares to officially unveil what is expected to become one of the district’s most attractive tourism and leisure destinations.
