The Blue Food Innovation Hub, an initiative designed by the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana in partnership with the World Economic Forum  with a focus on unlocking markets, and finance specifically for Ghana’s blue food sector is set to target person with disabilities (PWDs) and other stakeholders in the value chain.

Addressing journalists during a press engagement on the innovation hub, Chief Executive Officer, Jacob Adzikah stated that the hub seeks to enhance the blue food sector, therefore creating a space where individuals including PWDs can have limited access to finance and markets, low adoption of technology, and insufficient skills and knowledge among creators.

“Given the promising potential of the aquaculture sector, the hub will initially concentrate on inland aquaculture. This hub is designed to address significant challenges such as limited access to finance and markets, low adoption of technology, and insufficient skills and knowledge among creators,” Mr. Adzikah explained.

He further emphasised that the initiative aims to transform the blue food sector by unlocking resources for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and startups that have been operating in this space for years but struggle to scale their production.

“It will also push forward research and development within the aquaculture sector. We want the media to capture the right stories and share them with a wider audience to help us transform our blue food sector and create more opportunities” he urged.

Mr. Adzikah mentioned that the initiative is in collaboration with other stakeholders including the AGRA Sustainability, , the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and private sector players such as Pangea Africa, a leading investment firm in Ghana, among other many partners.
