SCORES OF people had to run for their lives after a massive explosion rocked a newly constructed petrol filling station at Aboabo near Ahwerewa in the Amansie West District of Ashanti Region.
The explosion, reportedly, happened suddenly, thereby sending shock waves and fear among the people present, who had to run to avoid being caught in the burning flames.
The incident, according to the Nkawie District Police report, which has been sighted by the DAILY GUIDE, caused massive destruction to properties, but luckily no human casualties were recorded.
The police disclosed that the blast happened around 3 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, and resulted in the burning of a fuel tanker, excavator machine, fuel pumps, a motorbike, rubber containers and other valuables.
“Today 20/02/26, at about 1500 hours, the Nkawie District Police received information that there was an explosion at a filling station at Aboabo near Ahwerewa.
“The District Commander and his men visited a newly constructed fuel station at Aboabo, near Ahwerewa, which belongs to one Mohammed Osman Houzeru.
“A fuel tanker with registration No.GN5163-20, SANY Excavator machine, two fuel pumps, a motorbike and assorted rubber containers were all found burnt as a result of the explosion,” the report stated.
According to the police, the cause of the explosion was not immediately known, adding that “the Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of the explosion.”
