STARTING FROM today, Monday, March 2, 2026, the sale of combustible and explosive materials at the Kumasi City Market will be illegal and offenders will be punished.
This directive was issued by the Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi aka ‘Zuba’ in Kumasi last Thursday.
“The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has banned the sale of combustible and explosive materials at the Kejetia Market with immediate effect,” the told journalists.
The Assembly, he disclosed, has realised that such materials easily explode and cause fire outbreaks after being exposed to extreme heat.
Zuba, who was addressing journalists, stated emphatically that the Assembly has decided to relocate the dealers and traders of the explosive items to the Race Course Market.
“Dealers of explosive materials such as carbide, petrol (gasoline), acid, gas, black powder, smokeless powder, and other highly inflammable substances, are our target.
“They have up to Sunday, March 1, 2026, to remove their explosive items from their shops to where we will designate for them at the Race Course Market,” the Kumasi Mayor said.
He said a team of security task force comprising military, fire, police, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and National Security personnel will visit the market for inspection today, to ensure full compliance.
