SIX MALE students of Islamic Senior High School have reportedly been apprehended for throwing stones at students of Kumasi High School (KUHIS).
The weird incident happened on the first-day of the Ashanti Regional Super Zonals Athletics Championship, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The suspects, allegedly, hurled stones at their victims around the Sports Hotel area, which is outside the venue where the athletics competition is taking place.
Samuel Otoo, the Chief Coordinator of the competition, who is also the Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Regional Sports Federation, confirmed the news.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) 6 Islamic Senior High School students attacked Kumasi High School students with stones, and police arrested them around Sports Hotel.
“They were six students in number. After the arrest, we notified the headmaster of their school, and we have left the rest to the police,” he disclosed to the media.
According to him, in order to prevent clashes among students and rowdy incidents during the competition, 300 policemen were earmarked for the three-day event.
“We have police checkpoints all over the major roads leading to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and this is to help prevent students from misbehaving and fighting.
“We have 300 policemen on patrol in and outside the venue. Some are on motorbikes to stop bad people from robbing the students during the Super Zonals,” he said.
