The late Mohbad
A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State Nigeria, has approved three overseas laboratories to conduct DNA tests to determine the paternity of Liam, son of late Nigerian singer, Mohbad.
Counsel to the singer’s father, Oladayo Ogungbe, disclosed the development after the court session. He said the court authorised one laboratory in the United States and two in the United Kingdom for the test.
“The court has eventually picked three DNA Laboratory centres, two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States. One from us, one from them, and the court picked an independent one,” Ogungbe stated.
According to him, all parties will be present when samples are collected. He explained that Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, and the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, each selected one laboratory, while the court chose a third independent facility to ensure transparency.
The push for a DNA test followed demands by the late singer’s father after the controversial circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death in September 2023 at his Lagos residence.
The case has been adjourned to April 7, 2026, when samples are expected to be collected under the supervision of welfare officers.
