A 19-year-old pregnant woman and a schoolgirl have been injured by a stray bullet during a funeral ceremony at Hiawu Besease.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday during a funeral ceremony for the late Queen Mother of Hiawu Besease, Nana Abena Moku.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was shooting sporadically into the air during the funeral when a stray bullet struck one of the victims, identified as Serwaa Alice.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Alice’s sister, Abigail, said they were at home when they suddenly heard a gunshot. She said they rushed outside, only to be informed by a relative that Alice had been hit by a stray bullet.

The stray bullet also reportedly struck a schoolgirl, and both victims are currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

Alice was first rushed to a nearby CHPS compound, where health workers attended to her before referring her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for further treatment.

She is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, where doctors are scheduled to perform surgery to remove her unborn baby, who reportedly died as a result of the gunshot injury.

According to the Unit Committee Chairman for the Hiawu Besease Electoral Area, Emmanuel Asante, there was heavy police presence in the community at the time of the incident, but no arrest has been made yet.

The family is appealing to the authorities to intervene and ensure that those responsible for the incident are brought to justice.
