SSNIT, TUC Hold Stakeholder Forum In Wa

A scene during the engagement

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has kicked off its nationwide regional stakeholder engagement forums in Wa in the Upper West regional capital, partnering with the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The forum featured presentations highlighting SSNIT’s progress and dispelling speculation about the scheme’s financial distress.

TUC members were also introduced to SSNIT’s digital channels, including guidance on downloading and using the SSNIT app.

SSNIT Director‑General, Kwesi Afreh Biney, speaking to journalists, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to protecting Ghanaian workers.

“We will visit each regional capital with TUC leadership to engage our comrades in the struggle for the Ghanaian worker, and together we will build a sustainable scheme we can all be proud of,” he said.

Mr. Biney disclosed robust growth, noting that the value of SSNIT’s investment assets rose from GH¢20.4 billion at the end of 2024 to more than GH¢25 billion by the end of 2025, driven by unprecedented profits from key investments.

He noted that the La Pleasure Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel previously slated for sale due to poor performance under the prior administration are now profitable.

“To expand access, SSNIT has begun co‑locating services with banks such as Fidelity Bank and Ghana Commercial Bank, enabling easier service delivery without the need for physical SSNIT offices,” he stated.

The SSNIT Director‑General projected 25 such service points would be operational by the end of 2026.

The Trades Union Congress Secretary General, Joshua Ansah, in a speech, acknowledged SSNIT’s solid performance.

According to him, many retirees receive low monthly pensions because employers fail to consolidate salaries and allowances when calculating contributions.

“We will fight employers to ensure salaries and allowances are fully consolidated,” Mr. Ansah said.

He also called on TUC leaders to educate members at the grassroots level about SSNIT contributions, and encouraged all workers to contribute to Ghana’s growth.

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust and Trades Union Congress teams are set to extend these sensitisation efforts nationwide.
