For the past years, many Ghanaians have lamented over the low turnout of artistes at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), an event earmarked to celebrate their works as well as honour deserving nominees.
At the just ended TGMA nominees’ announcement, which happened last Saturday in Accra, many patrons including Ghanaian influencer, Ama Burland, have called on the organisers to endeavour to persuade artistes to make an appearance at the awards ceremony.
In a post on X, which has since sparked a conversation online, the affable content creator called on artistes to model how actors attend the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
“I hope a lot of artistes attend the TGMA this year. We need our stars present to remind everyone that it’s an important cultural event. Nigerians take the AMVCA very personally and it shows in the value it holds. I hope we start doing the same for our own award systems,” the post read.
The 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominees were unveiled on March 14, 2026. Diana Hamilton is the only gospel artiste nominated for Artiste of the Year, going up against popular artistes like Wendy Shay, Black Sherif, Medikal, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie. Some of the notable categories and nominees include: Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste: Wendy Shay, Kojo Blak, KiDi, Olivetheboy, Gyakie, and Moliy; Best Hiplife Song: ‘Shoulder’ – Medikal featuring Shatta Wale & Beeztrap KOTM, ‘Habit’ – Fameye featuring Medikal, and ‘Tontonte’ – Ko-Jo Cue featuring AratheJay and Ofori Amponsah among others.
