Pragya Rider Drowns In Lake Bosomtwe Over Alcohol Bet

Deceased! Amankwaa Foster

A 27-year-old man, identified as Amankwaa Foster, popularly known as “City Boy,” a Pragya rider, has drowned in Lake Bosomtwe after reportedly failing to swim at a point in the middle of the lake.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, when the deceased and his friends went to have fun at Abono, a community along the lake in the Bosomtwe District.

According to an account by one of his friends on Akoma FM, monitored by DAILY GUIDE, the deceased, who was heavily intoxicated, drowned while attempting to swim across part of the lake, in a bid to win a bottle of alcohol.

“We went out on Pragya tricycles to have some drinks and later decided to swim in the lake. Since we are from Kuntenase, we rode there together with the deceased, but unfortunately he has died,” the friend narrated.

Eyewitnesses said Amankwaa Foster had successfully completed an initial attempt but drowned during a second attempt. According to one of his friends, who could not swim, he noticed a few minutes later that Foster was gasping for air in the water.

He immediately raised an alarm, prompting nearby fisherfolk to rush to assist. However, their efforts came too late to save him.

The victim was retrieved from the lake and rushed to a clinic at Abono before being transferred to a hospital in Kuntenase, where he was pronounced dead.

The eyewitness further claimed that they were surprised when hospital authorities insisted they obtain a hospital card despite the victim already showing no signs of life.

“They checked him and there was no sign of life, yet they asked us to go for a hospital card. We refused and demanded the body,” he alleged.

The situation escalated, leading to the intervention of police from Kuntenase, who arrived at the facility to restore calm as tensions rose and attracted other residents.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has reportedly expressed anger towards his friends over the challenge that led to the incident, which involved offering a bottle of alcohol to anyone who could swim the farthest.

The body has since been deposited at a morgue in Kuntenase, while police have commenced investigations into the incident.
