Joselyn Dumas
Popular actress, Joselyn Dumas, has alleged that she was defrauded in a mobile money scam that left her account depleted.
Speaking in a video posted on social media on March 17, 2026, she explained that the incident resulted in the loss of a significant amount of money from her MTN Ghana mobile money wallet.
According to her, the situation began when she attempted to upgrade her DStv Ghana subscription and unknowingly engaged a fraudster posing as a company representative. She said the individual sounded credible and later sent her a link, requesting her decoder details and PIN.
She noted that although she felt uneasy at some point, the person convinced her to proceed, citing technical difficulties. The suspect then sent another link and pushed her to quickly enter her mobile money code while guiding her through the process.
Describing the moment her account was compromised, she said, “As soon as I said to him that was my number, I felt a vibration on my phone. All my money was emptied.”
Joselyn further disclosed that the fraudster gained access to her mobile money application using her details and enrolled her on a loan service known as XtraCash. The individual subsequently took a loan in her name and withdrew the funds.
“In the process of talking to me as well, because he had my PIN and my number, he was able to get into my MoMo app, and he signed me up for something called XtraPay. I deposited money to send to somebody, and that money was also used to pay the loan,” she added.
She explained that even after regaining control of her account, any funds she deposited were used to settle the unauthorised loan, with deductions made by MTN Ghana.
The actress used her experience to caution the public against sharing sensitive information, urging mobile money users to be vigilant and avoid disclosing their PINs.
She also appealed to DStv Ghana to take action, stressing the need for stronger security measures to prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
