Tensions flared at the Ashanti Film Summit in Kumasi after actress, Mercy Asiedu, and other Kumawood stakeholders clashed with Bishop Ofori-Adu over concerns about the state of the local film industry.

A video circulating on social media platforms, including Facebook and X, on March 17, 2026, shows a heated exchange between industry players and the bishop, who chairs a committee set up by the Ashanti Regional Minister to help revive and strengthen Kumawood.

In the footage, Mercy Asiedu is seen alongside fellow actors, including Wayoosi and Evangelist Samuel Nyamekye, expressing frustration during discussions at the summit.

According to a Citifm post, the actors accused Bishop Ofori-Adu of disregarding their concerns and allegedly pursuing a personal agenda, which they described as disrespectful to the industry.

The nearly two-minute clip captures a moment when tensions escalated, with Mercy Asiedu and Evangelist Nyamekye approaching the podium to voice their dissatisfaction.

At one point, Nyamekye is heard saying, “You people are disrespecting us. Kumasi is the reason the movie industry became accepted in Ghana. You are very annoying.”

The incident has since generated widespread reactions online, with social media users divided over the confrontation and the broader issues facing the Kumawood film industry.
