The accident scene
A 23-year-old man, Kingsley Kwaku Atta, has lost his life in a fatal accident involving an overloaded tricycle, popularly known as aboboyaa, at Okyerekrom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The deceased was reportedly riding as a pillion passenger on the timber-laden tricycle, which was carrying about 20 logs, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The tricycle was said to be travelling from Bayerebon Number 5 towards Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when the rider lost control upon reaching a rough stretch of the road, leading to the crash.
Assembly Member for the area, Alexander Akwasi Yeboah, who confirmed the incident, explained that the accident was caused by overloading and the poor condition of the road.
“A group of young men had loaded the tricycle with timber and were heading towards Antwi Adjei Nkwanta when the rider lost control on a bad portion of the road,” he stated.
He disclosed that the rider and another victim who sustained injuries were rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital and are currently receiving treatment.
Mr. Yeboah expressed worry over the increasing misuse of tricycles in the area, describing the situation as alarming.
He warned that the continuous overloading and reckless handling of tricycles pose serious danger to lives and property.
He, therefore, appealed to the youth to strictly adhere to safety measures and use tricycles for their intended purpose, to prevent further loss of lives.
