Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has revealed why some actors in the industry are forced to ask for financial help despite years of fame.
Speaking on the show ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ hosted by Isbae U, the actress blamed the problem on the lack of royalties in Nollywood.
“The problem is that you see us begging because they don’t give us royalties. We work and toil so hard, and that small money you pay us is the only thing we get,” she said.
According to her, actors are paid just once for a movie, even if it continues to make money for years.
She compared this to developed film industries, where actors continue to earn long after a project is released.
“Go and look at even the smallest actors abroad. Every work they do fetches them money every day,” she added.
Patience said the situation has pushed many actors to look for other income streams, especially online platforms.
“That’s why everyone is running to YouTube,” she noted.
