TWENTY TWO suspected female Nigerian prostitutes have been arrested in Kumasi after used condoms reportedly exposed their activities to city authorities.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), led by Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, had embarked on a major clean-up exercise in Kumasi over the weekend. In the course of cleaning the Asafo Market area, city authorities found quantities of used condoms in the drainage system.
The KMA personnel, after making their own investigations, discovered that a certain block in the community had either been turned into a brothel or hotel, where suspected prostitutes were housed.
The authorities therefore stormed the place and managed to apprehend 22 female Nigerians, suspected to be engaging in prostitution.
The Kumasi Mayor, nicknamed ‘Zuba’, confirming the mass arrests to journalists, stated that the used condoms and reports by some people in the area, led to the arrests of the suspects.
According to him, all 22 female suspects have since been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service in Kumasi to take the necessary action.
