Ernest Perry Agbemordzi speaking at the press conference
A group of concerned aspirants and party faithful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema East Constituency has called on the NPP’s national leadership to halt upcoming elections in the constituency, citing what they describe as “grave irregularities” in the polling station electoral process.
At a press conference in Tema yesterday, the group, led by convener, Ernest Perry Agbemordzi, said the integrity of ongoing internal polls has been compromised by actions of constituency executives and a former Member of Parliament (MP) and Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, who is contesting for the party’s National Organiser position.
According to Mr. Agbemordzi, when nominations opened for polling station elections, coordinators and individuals allegedly aligned with Mr. Glover collected photographs and voter ID cards from members with assurances they would be included in a “pre-prepared list.”
He said the action discouraged others from freely purchasing nomination forms.
Mr. Agbemordzi further alleged widespread intimidation during polling station elections held three weeks ago, with some members reportedly forced into a headcount voting system under threats that their names would be removed from the album if they failed to comply.
Even in unopposed areas, they claim members remain unsure of their status or whether they appeared in the final album.
“Requests for access to the album were allegedly dismissed with remarks like, ‘Did you buy forms for your people?’” they said.
Ahead of electoral area coordinators’ elections set for Sunday, June 14, Mr. Agbemordzi said the aspirants requested pictorial hard copies of the album.
Instead, he said Regional Representative, Jeff Kassim provided a document for three electoral areas — Dade Ago, Kwesi Plange, and Padmore — which he says contains serious flaws.
Some of the flaws cited are non-residents still listed, including Faustina Bawa, Stephen Yeboah, and Elizabeth Ofori, who are reportedly abroad. Defeated candidates such as Jennifer Adu, Evelyn Nyamekye, and Tornyeviadzi Michael Sola appearing in the album, while declared winners like Enoch Amoatey were excluded from the Dade Agbo list.
Victorious candidate, Tettey Leno was allegedly reassigned from Communication Officer to Organising without justification.
The group also flagged age violations, claiming Mr. Glover’s 82-year-old mother is listed as chairperson in Ashiboi despite an agreed 70-year age ceiling.
They also questioned the neutrality of Regional Representative, Jeff Kassim, citing his reported role in organising social media activities for Mr. Glover’s national campaign.
They also criticised Mr. Glover for occupying a chairmanship position in Ashiboi while contesting for National Organiser, saying it disenfranchises other members.
The group is therefore demanding an immediate injunction on all forthcoming elections in Tema East, appointment of a neutral regional representative, release of pictorial albums to aspirants, a review of the constituency album, and investigation into Mr. Glover’s alleged bias and intimidation.
“If these concerns are not adequately addressed, we may be compelled to seek legal redress to protect the integrity of our party,” Agbemordzi said.
