Some contestants of the upcoming Ashanti Regional NPP elections
THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region will, starting from today, vet the various aspirants who are contesting for regional positions in the party.
The important exercise, according reports, would officially end on Tuesday, and aspirants who would be cleared, would be given the nod to campaign ahead of the elections.
Scheduled to take place in August 2026, the Ashanti Regional NPP elections would see delegates electing new executives to manage the affairs of the party for the next four years.
Meanwhile, the paper gathered that all the executive positions in the region would be keenly contested for, as more than one person filed their forms for the various positions.
Kwaku Atta Sarpong, a member of the NPP Ashanti Regional Committee, is said to have announced to the press that 35 people would be contesting for the various positions.
“Out of the 35 aspirants, seven (7) are females, and the majority of 28 are males,” he disclosed to journalists during a press briefing in Kumasi last Friday.
He explained that “two (2) persons filed for the position of Regional Chairman, four (4) for First Vice Chairman, three (3) for Second Vice Chairman, three (3) for Regional Secretary, and four (4) for Deputy Regional Secretary.
“Three (3) for Regional Treasurer, three (3) for Regional Organiser, three (3) for Women’s Organiser, four (4) for Youth Organiser, four (4) for Nasara Coordinator, and two (2) for Communications Officer positions, respectively.”
Atta Sarpong, on behalf of the election committee, assured that the upcoming regional elections would be held in a free and fair manner in order to help deepen party peace and unity.
He, therefore, admonished the various contestants to shun insults and name calling during their campaigns for votes, reminding them that the upcoming NPP polls is a family affair.
