The African Dance Rhythms Ensemble
Fofoo Attiso and The African Dance Rhythms Ensemble will on August 7 introduce the dance of Kalajah at the Alliance Française, Accra.
The free-to-attend event starts exactly at 6 p.m. with performances from Nii Tettey Leno Tetteh, Emmanuel Dance Ensemble (EDE), Efosa International Dance Company, and Sage Atanga among other surprise performances.
The launch is supported by the Ghana Tourism Authority, One Spirit Africa, Blessed Care Foundation and the Center for National Culture, Greater Accra.
Kalajah: The Dance of Connection, Rhythm, and Spirit Kalajah is a dance created by Fofo Apelete Attiso, inspired by the spiritual and historical foundations of African traditional dance.
Drawing from the rich heritage of African movement, drumming, and cultural expression, Kalajah reflects the enduring traditions through which dance serves as storytelling, ceremony, healing, and spiritual connection. The name Kalajah is deeply rooted in African language, movement, and cultural philosophy. It is inspired by three meaningful expressions that together represent the essence of dance as a living experience.
It is a cultural expression that celebrates authenticity, belonging, resilience, and shared humanity. It encourages people to reconnect with themselves while appreciating the traditions that continue to shape contemporary movement. Kalajah is a reminder that as long as the heart beats, rhythm lives within us. As long as rhythm lives, the body will move. And through movement, it affirm the deepest truth of our humanity.
