A structure destroyed by the explosion
Four people have been killed and several others injured following a dynamite explosion in the mining town of Aboso in the Western Region.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered by DAILY GUIDE, the blast happened after residents tried to kill a large snake in the area.
The resident who first spotted the snake alerted a nearby shop owner, who then fired a warning shot in an attempt to scare the reptile away, however, the shop’s security personnel took direct action and shot at the snake.
Unfortunately, the bullet hit a stock of explosive slabs being sold at a shop close by, triggering a massive explosion.
Speaking to journalists, the Assembly Member for Akutuase Electoral Area, Emmanuel Eshun, said three people died instantly at the scene. One of them was identified as the shop owner, Kofi Fletcher.
“The fourth victim, who sustained severe injuries, later died while being rushed to a nearby health facility. That brings the death toll to four,” he said.
Mr. Eshun added that, “several other individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.”
The police disclosed the launch of investigation into the incident, with particular focus on the illegal sale of explosive materials in the community.
Meanwhile, some residents have expressed concern over the storage and sale of dynamite slabs in residential areas. They are appealing to authorities and regulatory agencies to clamp down on the practice.
The Aboso community remains in shock as families mourn the victims of the tragic incident.
